Hello writers and welcome to Writer's Block. In here, I will give you a scenario. With that scenario, you create a scene. This gives all writer's a chance to practice, showcase and expand their creative writing skills and to open up their imagination to a whole new level. It also gives us a chance to really identify the uniqueness and creativity in all of the writers. The rules are simple. I will post a scenario each week for the month of July. Within that week, any and all writers that want to take on the scenario has that week to post what they got. Also, all comment to the writing must be professional. It's okay to critique someone's work but do not be disrespectful towards their craft. Be respectful, be courteous. Now, let's begin!
Scenario 1
Place: Distant Planet
Time: Future
Main Character's Race: Human
Other Characters: Of any other species or artificial intelligence
* In this scenario, you will be given only the place, time, main characters race, and other characters race. With this information, try to create a scene for your main character and the environment he or she is in. This should make for a good sci-fi scene for all of the sci-fi writers. Good luck, have fun, and let your imagination run amuck.
Tarshis: Queen of the Mountain
ReplyDeleteShe swung her blade into the assailants shoulder, he went down to a knee and she kicked him away pulling the sword back at the same time. “Ha!” she yelled with obvious mirth “Queen of this mountain wins again!”
She surveyed her surroundings, the bodies at her feet were of the defeated challengers to her reign. They were armed combatants of various species from across the spiral arm of the milky way, only the other species called it Rogarn.
“I win again, Meister Jee” she screamed, joyously. She didn't know if her mentor, like a foster father really, could hear her but she was jubilant. Trained in combat since the XaXon's had dropped her off while still an infant she had no memory of her home world.
She was the queen of this mountain and today's fight was over. She quickly put her hands through the pockets of the dead fighters, cleaning out any of their currency cubes and their lunch pails. After she had slung that last of the lunch pails over her shoulder she ran back down the mountain to the cave she shared with her mentor.
The old Denga was sitting there wearing dirty rags, stained from many meals. They had been trapped on this rock for far too long, but the girl she was providing them both well, indeed. His mousey features brightened as she entered the cave.
She sat across from him in the cave “It was a good haul today!”
She took the first lunch pail and opened it “Sausages and Snot!” she shouted and laughed, grabbing one of the sausages and passing the pail into his paws. Then she opened the next one and said “Score!” pulling two bottles of whatever and tossing him one, she opened the top of the other and took a big gulp.
“Ah this is the life!” she said “Got a pocketful of cubes too, Meister”
He nodded. “You have done well, Tarshis”
“That Korgan was a nasty fellow, he actually brought a blaster with him” she sniffed and wiped her dirty face with a dirtier forehand “Didn't get much chance to use it though. I'm going to go back and take their armor and boots when I'm done eating.”
“Remember to burn the corpses” he reminded her “You must be respectful to the fallen, they were warriors like you too”
She waved and nodded and took another gulp from the bottle “Yeah, yeah, I know.”
Meister Jee shook his head and then said “You must calm down. Meditate a bit. There is something important I must tell you”
“I'm a warrior with energy to burn! Meditating is hard for me” she said with a grin
“Tarshis” he said gently “I have found your home world”
She nearly choked on the drink and spit some of it out to the side. “What do you mean my home world? Wherever you are is my home!”
Meister Jee shook his head “Being exile to this rock is hardly a home, even for one of my people and we aren't the cleanest species”, wondering when the last time either of them had gotten a bath. “But you should know your own home world, you should find out about your species”
“I don't care” she said “I don't remember it and it doesn't matter”
He sighed.
“I'm going to go get their stuff and, respectfully, burn their corpses. Then we will have a pile of tradable goods to carry into Rottren.” she said and smiled “and we will be able to spend these” she held out some of the currency cubes from her pocket.
Meister Jee nodded “Then we will be able to afford to look up your home world and learn more about it and your people”
She slouched. “Party pooper”
This is really good. Very original. I like how you brought out the poverty level and risks some take to earn another day's blessings. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI loved this scene man, especially because the future was a different view, where the future doesn't yield progress but going back to survival.
DeleteI wasn't able to fit my scene into the comment sections, so I emailed you my scene. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI hope they can find a way to post it. Maybe as an image or something.
DeleteBaati, your scene has been added.
DeleteI think I should just do what you did, and add the scene in portions.
DeleteThank you for posting it for me sir!

The Lifers
The night was breathless. The gleaming lights of the city were dimming and the soundtrack of the night was slowly fading away. The upbeat jazzy tunes that filled the streets were soon replaced by the eerie and ever-so-haunting screech of the nightly broadcast.
“Hello residents of CH-25, humans, bots, and cyborgs alike. As the clock hits 20:00, as we all know it is time for the nightly curfew. The cyborgs will be out on patrol shortly. Make sure that you stay inside for the remainder of the night, and you follow the regular curfew protocol. And remember, we protect ourselves today to survive for a better tomorrow”.
As the broadcast continues to play, sounds of the townsfolk prepping their homes for lockdown quickly overpower the radio voice, but only for a brief moment. In a matter of minutes, the streets become flooded with cyborg patrollers, sounds of their boots striking the streets drown out the radio and townsfolk altogether. The broadcast diminishes and the cyborgs fall into place, but out of the shadows a mysterious figure bursts through the darkness.
A robot car zooms through the alleyways of CH-25, passing by the locked-down buildings and navigating through the cyborg-entrenched streets. The small robot makes sure to hide itself from all patrolling cyborgs as the robot advances towards its destination. As the robot moves further into the heart of the city, the robot stumbles upon an abandoned building that was locked down automatically. The robot stops abruptly and starts scanning the building.
(Bee-be-be-Beeep)
Dah-du-du-DAHH
“What was that? You find it yet, Knin?” a boyish voice calls from inside the robot
“No, I just like making random robot sex noises” the robot, known as Knin, shoots back at him.
“Can’t you just say yes or no, like an actual robot?”
“Where’s the fun in that?”
As Knin looks for a way inside the building, Evander locates Knin and goes to join her. He hops onto his hover board “Nimbus” and flies over to the building Knin is at. As he reaches the building and comes in for landing, he notices Knin transform from the robot car to a more preferred human-like form.
“Alright so we have 3 minutes to get in there and get the fuck out. I say we just mark the ones we need and leave them for tomorrow. And since we’re staying till tomorrow, let’s not do anything stupid, ok” Evander whispers as he loads his blaster, and quickly holsters it.
Knin looks at Evander worryingly, and says, “Yeah, about that…..”
BOOOOOOOOMMMMM
ReplyDeleteKnin shoots through the building, creating the entrance that they desperately needed.
“WHAT WAS THAT??!!!!”
“We gotta hurry Evander, CMON!”
“… Wait a min-… don’t tell me we-“
“SHUT UP!! 2 MINUTES BODYBAG!!!” Knin screams as she grabs Evander by the collar and pulls him into the room.
As they enter the room, they notice that the room is divided into the entrance, and a secure locker that holds all the hardware.
“Maybe you can just bla-. “ Evander is interrupted by another blast sound
BOOOOOOOOOMMMMM
“Already ahead of ya, champ”
“I was joking! Dammit the cyborgs are gonna come now”
Knin rushes into the room and pulls all the covers off of the equipment
“Well then let’s get what we need and get the fuck outta here!” Knin shouts.
As they continue to look through the storage for their loot, Evander progressively slows down, and his sense of urgency seems to vanish. Knin notices his change, and yells at him
“1 minute Evander, You’re supposed to speed up not slow down!!!!”
“Was this your plan all along?” Evander asks calmly
Knin ignores him and looks over in the corner, to see exactly what they came for.
“Jackpot!” Knin exclaims as she rips the cover off of the propulsion engine.
“You don’t think we would’ve found him, do you?” Evander asks angrily
“Right now?! We’re doing this right now?!”
“We didn’t come here for this shit, we came here to find them Knin! We can’t do this ourselves”
“WE GOTTA LIVE FIRST! 30 FUCKIN SECONDS!” Knin shouts at Evander as he turns from her.
“And that’s on you! We didn’t come for these engines Knin, we came here t-“
“Came here for what?” a mysterious voice bellows from outside the room
2 strange figures appear from the entrance, and as Evander whirls around to confront them, he notices the 2 cyborgs with blasters pointed right at his head.
“Nice to see a bodybag out past curfew.”
“And look here, he didn’t want to leave without borrowing some of our stuff too.”
“Oh this will be fun.”
Evander immediately raises his hands above his head, and looks around the room for Knin, but all he sees is a backpack where she once was.
“Hey kid, eyes front” one of the cyborg says, which immediately straightens Evander up
“Now before we take you in, tell us who’s here with you” the other cyborg insists.
ReplyDeleteEvander’s eyes widen, and he stutters, “WH-What do you mean”.
“Well unless you like arguing with yourself, someone else was here.”
“And go ahead and lie to us, I hope you do. Makes it easier on us”
“..Wayyy… Easier”
Evander straightens up immediately, and drops his arms to his side slowly. He stares at the two cyborgs, looks past them for a second, and then looks behind himself at the backpack. Then Evander looks back at them and scoffs at the Cyborgs.
“What’s so funn-?”
TTHHHRASSSHHHHHHH
The cyborg is interrupted mid-sentence as part of the ceiling collapses to the floor, luckily the cyborgs side and not his. As the cyborgs get trapped under the rubble, he grabs the backpack on the ground and slings it onto his back. As the dust and debris clear, he notices a spacecraft lower into the open space and land in the room.
“What.. No thank you?” Knin asks as she smirks
“We can celebrate later, we still gotta get outta here! The other cyborgs patrolling this area definitely heard that. You grab the engine, I’ll take care of the cyborgs.”
“And I thought I was a downer”
As Knin exits the ship, her true form re-enters Evander’s mind. Sometimes he forgets that she isn’t a robot, but seeing her burgundy colored skin and the velvet-textured tentacles coming from her scalp are a hearty reminder. As Knin approaches the cyborgs, Evander takes a look at the backpack to make sure their robot-armor is all intact and accounted for. He caresses the armor, takes a moment of silence, and puts the backpack back on.
As Knin walks away from the cyborgs and heads to the propulsion engine, Evander equips his blaster and walks over to the fallen cyborgs. He looks at the first one, and takes the cyborgs mask off. When Evander can’t identify the being, he backs up, and points his blaster at the cyborg’s head.
Evander stares at the man blankly, and slowly pulls the trigger.
TWUOOM
Evander walks over to the second cyborg, and as he kneels down he looks over the cyborg thoroughly. As he grabs the mask, he gasps in amazement.
“Oh Shit”
“What happened?!”
Evander calls Knin over to his side, and as they look at the cyborg figure in amazement, Knin starts to tear up.
“Hjaltin??” Knin cries in amazement
“2 birds, 1 stone” Evander says confidently.
Wow! I like that. That's got the makings of a book.
ReplyDeleteThanks man!
